See for yourself why so many people around the world have become so inspired by the simplicity of his program, and the confidence and skills they have developed to become better leaders, confidence builders and good communicators with their equine partners.
The Doug Mills Method teaches that allowing the horse "freedom to choose" is the key ingredient to understanding horse psychology.
What most people don't realize is that, the benefit to using this program far exceeds the confidence it gives to the horse, we have seen it build confidence in the people who use it as well. The best way to describe this is to have you watch the inspirational video of a young man who was paralyzed in an auto accident, horses were a part of his life before the accident and Doug shows him that you can still establish leadership and enjoy horses even if it is from a wheel chair.

"Watching Doug at Mane Event two weekends ago was like poetry in motion." The luck of the draw gave Doug a challenging young colt. Doug figured his disposition was like having ‘ a lot of heart’. He said he didn’t want to compromise that. He said when we try to ride a free flowing wild spirit; we need to proceed very gently, with feel and understanding while keeping his spirit intact. He wanted Chance to stop bucking and ‘surrender’ to him in the knowledge that Doug is a leader who would protect his character.
I admire Doug’s willingness to forego hastiness in his effort to lay a solid foundation for Chance; to give him the best opportunity for his future domestic life with humans.
Doug didn’t get to ride young Chance around in all gaits or do any special tricks on him, but this young colt left Mane Event with the trust and knowledge that can only be endowed by a supreme master of horsemanship.

Nice to hear someone else got as much as John and I did out of the clinic. I too have gained a lot of confidence with my horses. And they listen to me and do what I ask without any trouble. That alone was worth the expense and work associated with the clinic. I watch my DVD's and they keep me on track when I am a little unsure.

              Dear Doug,
I have been meaning to contact you and thank you BIG TIME for all of your help at the clinic in Smithers. The palomino stud I had has completely changed for the better - he is so humble and willing to work he is now an over achiever.... I have been working him with the 'beam' and I can now do it with some skill. He is very light in the bridle and supple - no resistance at all and no pulling rein or lead out of my hand. All I have to do is wiggle my finger of pressure and he is there!
I also took him into town to the indoor arena yeaterday around 10 mares and he never talked once - nor did his focus stray.... SO different to have him so willing. I have to laugh now - if I walk by his paddock going to get another horse to work he is calling me telling me HE wants to go to work.... anyways, I am looking forward to your next clinic and learning the next step in your training methods. Thanks again!

              Doug,
Thanks for being so good at what you do. Your program is easy to follow and understand. Like you say, "There is no magic in what you do...
I am now at a stage where I am actually enjoying my horse - for a change. He doesn't pull and argue all the time. I have enough confidence to work on my own and make progress. You really make me think about what I am doing and why. All the gimmicks - draw reins, German martingales and that box of bits I have been collecting for years have been put away.
I would recommend your DVD's and program to anybody who wants to improve themselves and their horse. I look forward to working with you in the future.

My name is Severin Peterson. I am thirty five and have been riding as long as I can remember. Growing up I always had a great passion for horses. When I was seven I started competing in gymkhanas. At twelve I started roping and steer wrestling. My brother and I went through high school rodeo program and finished with full rodeo scholarships at Odessa College in Texas. I won the 1990 and 1991 BCHRA calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, and all round champion. In 1992 junior world timed event champion, 1993 Arkansas high school steer wrestling champion. Competing in North America I have taken some great clinics and have met some great horsemen. All the years of training horses I was always looking for that extra edge.
Recently I took a series of clinics with Doug Mills that has taken my horsemanship to another level. Seeing the results on my own horses and other horses has made me a true believer in the Doug Mills training program. Doug understands horses mentally and physically, and is able to pass that knowledge on like no other clinician. I highly recommend the Doug Mills training program to any discipline of rider.
              ~Severin Peterson
